Career Prep Program
Generation Outreach is an after-school program that introduces students to careers at an earlier age. Our programs help students identify careers that they may or may not be interested in. We think outside of the box when it comes to education and we believe that our programs are the future of education in Monroe County. Our Summer Program begins on July 13th and ends on August 28th. We will be hosting our Video Production Program, Video Game Design, Sneaker Creation, Magazine Creation & Social Media, Music Production, Web Development, and last but not least Property Acquisition. Students will attend their career training one time per week from 9:00-3:30.

Video Production
End Product: Web Show
Our Video Production course offers apprentices the opportunity to learn what it takes to be a professional video producer. Apprentices learn how to operate professional cameras, use editing software, and how to set up a film shoot. Throughout the course, they will learn how to work with a team, set and accomplish goals, as well as develop a business mentality. All learning is hands-on and creative. Apprentices in the program will participate in the development of content for Generation Youth*.

Web Design
End Product: Personal or Local Business Website
Our Web Design course offers apprentices the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of a rapidly growing field. They will learn how to use WordPress as well as some basic coding. Apprentices will also receive an understanding of the correlation between web design and graphic design. Through this program, the apprentices will create their very own website or develop a website for a local business. Each apprentice who contributes will have their portfolio featured as a page on the Generation Outreach website. From beginning to end apprentices will be working with a team, developing a concept, and seeing it through to completion. Our goal is for apprentices to gain the base skills necessary to work in the web development industry.

Game Design
End Product: Video Game
In the Game Design course, apprentices are not playing video games, they’re creating them! Our instructors teach them the ins and outs of the software that is used to create professional games. Throughout the program, they will create their very own playable video game. While they will not be developing games with the graphics of NBA2K or Call of Duty, they will be introduced to the fundamentals. These include graphics, coding, and developing a storyline/theme. At the end of the program, each apprentice will have the opportunity to play their video game on a computer. All content created will be included in the apprentice’s portfolio and can be used to help them gain employment.

Sneaker Creation
End Product: Pair of Sneakers
The Sneaker Creation program offers apprentices the opportunity to experience what it’s like to create their very own sneaker. We introduce them to professional graphic design software which is used to help them create the best product. Through our program, they will learn the ins and outs of the software and take their idea from drawing to physical sneaker. We expose apprentices to a career that they may not have even thought was possible. One of the most important aspects of this program is taking apprentices from the mindset of a consumer to a producer. Many kids easily spend $300.00 on a pair of sneakers and what we want to teach them instead, is to invest that money in their own sneaker business. All the skills being taught to our apprentices throughout this course are transferable to thousands of other jobs across the globe. We will also inform them about the various colleges that specialize in this field of study.

Magazine Creation/ Journalism

Through our Magazine Creation and Journalism course apprentices are exposed to a number of different skills. We introduce them to graphic design, photography, and design layout. They also learn how to develop an article for a magazine and/or a vlog episode. The goal of this program is to help our apprentices create their very own content which will be used for Generation Youth*. Each apprentice will get hands-on experience highlighting positive things young people are doing in the community. They will reach out to other youth, perform an interview, and write an article and/or create a vlog episode. We will then publish their articles as a magazine and post them, as well as the vlogs, on Generation Youth. Once the entire magazine is completed we will print one thousand copies for the apprentices to distribute to family and friends.

Music Production

Property Acquisition
End Product: Step by Step Guide to Acquiring Property
Owning property is fundamental in the quest for financial freedom. But often students rarely, if ever, have an opportunity or an understanding of this lucrative field. Our Property Acquisition course is designed to change that! Apprentices will learn about credit, loans, property value, equity and so much more. Each topic will be presented in a fun and competitive way. Apprentices will leave with a wealth of knowledge and be ready to own their first property by the time they reach twenty years old.
